Category C1 Training

To obtain a 7.5 tonne (Cat. C1) licence, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must hold a full car licence (Cat. ‘B’)

You then need a provisional Cat ‘C1’ licence and to obtain this, a medical will need to be undertaken. The licence application, along with the completed medical form, is then sent to the DVLA at Swansea.
The next stage is to take and pass the theory test.  A theory test can only be booked upon receipt of the provisional entitlement and not before.
After successfully completing the theory test, a free driving assessment can be taken, enabling our instructor to establish what training is required. The training will then be tailored to suit your own needs. We operate 7 days a week and  practical tests can be arranged if required.

Category C (Rigid) Training

To obtain a LGV rigid (Cat C) licence, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must hold a full car licence (Cat ‘B’)

You then need a provisional Cat ‘C’ licence and to obtain this, a medical will need to be undertaken. The licence application, along with the completed medical form, is then sent to the DVLA at Swansea.
The next stage is to take and pass the theory and hazard perception (hp) tests.  Theory and hp tests can only be booked upon receipt of the provisional entitlement and not before.
After successfully completing the theory test, a free driving assessment can be taken, enabling our instructor to establish what training is required. The training will then be tailored to suit your own needs. We operate 7 days a week and practical tests can be arranged if required.

Category C+E (Artic) Training

To obtain an artic (Cat. C+E) licence, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must hold or qualify for a rigid (Cat. C) Licence
  • You do not need to take a theory test

After passing the rigid driving test (Cat. C), there is a short waiting period of about three weeks. This is normally the time it takes the DVLA to issue you with your full licence for category ‘C’ and your provisional for category ‘C+E’.
Existing rigid drivers should automatically hold a provisional entitlement for category ‘C+E’ which enables them to commence training immediately.

You do not need to take a theory or hp test for this vehicle class.
